A Guy from Newport Harbor Once Said, “You Know What Really Chaps My Ass?”

When I pin curl my hair to get some extra, very needed volume, I look in the mirror at myself and my hair and think, “Some people get their hair done like this for prom.” (And pay for it!)

HAH!

On another note, I discovered prostitution is legal in HK, that makes me feel really dumb - always thought it wasn’t. I knew Mong Kok was a sucky place to stay this past Winter Break…Portland Street and such. Anyway, can someone tell me where 半島 is? English translation?

Composers, Podcasts and Polaroids

Today I went into Professor Qin’s office hours to make-up my oral test. She introduced me to the website ChinesePod to improve my pronounciation, since my tones are beyond bad.

ChinesePod is pretty helpful actually. They have many lessons ranging from Newbie to Advanced, meant to be downloaded to an iPod or whatever so you can learn Chinese on your own time.

Today I listened to Intermediate - Study Abroad and it was the funniest thing ever. They used the expression 不會的 and the hosts, Ken and Jenny started using it out of the dialogue context to explain the meaning (something like ‘I will never’).

Ken: So, Jenny are you going to get waaasted tonight?

Jenny: 不會的!

Naturally, I burst out laughing quite hard, after only a like half a second of being taken aback. Listen for yourself.

In other news, I took one of those personality tests today - you know those ones that tell you are in terms of four letters? Anyway, I am ISFP standing for Introverted (22%) Sensing (62%) Feeling (38%) Perceiving (22%). The description:

HK Stories Part 1: Reminiscences, Coincidences & Disappointments

Start - 20 December 2007 11:00 PM PST

For the first time in three years, I was going back to Hong Kong again!

This time I was ready: ready to take on HK by myself, done with all the sightseeing, equipped with sufficient speaking and reading capabilities and most importantly, ready to eat.

Actually, I wasn’t all that excited honestly. Cathay Pacific and the YWCA Anne Black in Mong Kok didn’t really scream ‘great vacation’ to me. Disclaimer: I have to confess I am jaded because my first trip to HK was on Singapore Airlines (but then my second was on China Airlines!) and I have never taken Cathay.

So in the middle of a drizzly night, my dad’s friend dropped us off at SFO and I was so psyched to be at the beautiful airport again. I looked longingly at the FlyClear lane during Security, which I always feel like an expert at going through, and quickly browsed the Hamptons bags at the Coach boutique. Our gate was filled with people (as typical with Cathay Pacific), including a classmate of Justine’s. After short introductions and a quick trip the bathroom, we were in line to board and soon, ready to leave the country. more))
